Complete Honest Review Of Moto G Dual Sim after experiencing it for 5 months

Hii Guys! This review is written keeping in mind those people who are thinking to buy a Moto G but have a doubt seeing various reviews on flipkart and other sites. The review written here is totally honest, unbiased, practical and realistic after using Moto G for 5 months. So, Lets start:

The day was February 10 2014, when I placed an order, Oh sorry, pre-booked my Moto G 16GB version (XT-1033 Indian version). I was not that lucky to book it on launch day as there were shipping restrictions to my city (even today they have the restrictions in UP but I ordered for Haryana & went 100 kms from my home for this device.. yes, that was the Moto G craze!!). They told the device will be delivered to you in 20 days but to my luck got it on 19th Feb!. I was a bit afraid while unboxing but to my relief, the product was not defected.

What's In The Box:

Inside the Box   Copyright: FoneArena
On seeing the size of box, you will be in doubt how Moto G fit into it? But the box looks cute. In the Box, you will get:

  1. The device
  2. Motorola Charger (500mA)
  3. Earphones
  4. User Manual and Warranty-card
Remember the device does not come with a data cable hence buy a data cable. The device which I got was not sealed but was laminated with plastic sheet. I later came to know that the device was fresh and no user has got their device sealed.

The First boot:

Before turning on, I put the device on charge for some time. After an hour, I removed the charger and turned it on. The Boot animation was awesome! I haven't seen any company having such brilliant animation. The device turned on and asked to Log In via Google Account.

Note: Before turning on your Moto G for first time.. its recommended to charge it with the original charger at least for 2 hours.

The Design:

This section is better explained on some reviewing sites!! Holding this device will not make you feel low.. all thanks to its premium build quality and sturdy design. The size is perfect and you can easily operate it with one hand. And the  the dimple with Motorola logo is correctly placed! The screen used here has a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 Protection which makes the screen scratch resistant, therefore, even after 5 months and without any screen guard, my phone looks new!
One thing more I would like to bring in light is that the device has a nano-coating which makes this device water resistant! Motorola doesn't claim it on paper but tests conducted by some sites indicate that it can withstand even if it falls in a bucket of water. (but take it out instantly!)

User Interface:

The UI present in the Moto G is Stock. You can say its 90% stock. Motorola has made some changes and added its own Dialer, Gallery and Camera app. Some of the Motorola apps are: Assist, Moto Migrate and Moto Care. But Motorola has applied some tweaks and made the UI lag free. Preinstalled Apps like Camera, Gallery and the Boot Services update via Play Store so, you dont need to wait for OTA updates.

The Camera:

The Camera app provided by the motorola is simplistic. Have used many devices before but havenot used such simple app.. Just tap anywhere on screen and you are done! Have very few settings and thats a nice thing. You also have a control focus setting in which you can choose on which part of image to focus. It also has HDR mode which captures improved photos. One feature which amazed me is of "Slow Motion Video" which captures normal video in HDR mode.
Some of the photos are attached. Have a look!

The images shot by Moto G is fine as per the 5 megapixel pic should be. I don't complain the photos and they are perfect for me. But one thing if you are a photographer, takes many photos daily, then this phone is slightly not for you.

Multi tasking:

I am a heavy multi-tasker. With many apps running like Facebook, Pages Manager, Chrome running simultaneously I didn't feel a lag. All is buttery smooth and fluid! But if you open more apps or a game then you will feel some glitches. But that will not happen as we are not such heavy multi tasker. 2-3 always remain open in my phone still I don't feel a lag.Motorola even claims that the Moto G performs well in some fields when compared with Galaxy S4.

Gaming:

I am not a big gamer but play games rarely. But the games which I played on my Moto G impressed me.. Whether its simple games like Subway Surfers, Temple Run 2 or its heavy games like dead Trigger 2, Asphalt 8 all run without a lag.. The 720p HD screen takes gaming to next level!

Battery:

Motorola has provided 2070mAh of Battery. That's sufficient for a normal usage. You can get upto 24 hours of battery juice based on your usage pattern. I experienced that the charger provided by Motorola is a bit slow and takes 3.5-4 hours to full charge. So, I use another charger which charges completely in 2.5 hours.
When both SIM active: If you are using 2G or Wifi for normal Facebook, Whatsapp, E-mail, and net surfing all the time then you will get upto 18 hours of battery life. But if you 3G with medium signal strength then you get about 14-16 hours of Battery.
If you are using your Moto G with just one SIM, then your phone can run more than 24 hours on a single full charge.
Having both SIM active and 3G on Airtel active I get full day long battery and put on charge overnight.

Storage:

Storage is not a major issue if you use 16 GB version. In 16 GB, you get 12.92 GB of storage for storing your stuff. You also get 50GB Google Drive space for 2 years. Still if you are concerned, buy an OTG cable from here, and attach a pendrive or HDD with it.

Final Views:

First of all, Let me make it clear, all the problems told by other users like over heating, not supporting OTG, Immediate Battery drain,WiFi drop etc. are all crap or there set was faulty. I have not faced even one of it.
Before buying any smartphone, First of all decide what is your main priority whether you want it for gaming, or for capturing photos, or for multi-tasking.. If you need for photography, then this device is not for you. Other than the Camera, the Moto G is perfect. Take a 8GB version only when you are taking a phone for simple operations like Call, Whatsapp etc.

Rivals at this Price range:

  • Xiaomi Mi3: This is the biggest rival of Moto G. But its main cons for Indians is that its Single Sim. In my opinion it would be a better idea to go for this device in August end. As the device might be easily available at that time and we will also come to know whether it is worth buying. But note one thing! This device is not for those who love flashing new ROMs, kernels as there is no XDA support for this device.
  • Asus Zenfone 5: Seeing the specs, This can also be a great choice. I can't comment much about its performance as I didn't have my hands-on it.
