How-to: External Hard reset Moto G

There might be any reason for you to reset your phone. If your phone is lagging after the recent update, or if there are some other errors leaching your phone. Factory reset is the only option for non-rooted users.

External Reset:

This can be used in those conditions when your phone is not booting up or you are unable to access phone menu. I recommend using this option.
CAUTION: This will delete all the data from your device. Its recommended to make a Back up all the data. Know step wise how to create a Backup.

Steps:

1. Power off the phone, and after that press the VOL DOWN KEY for 2-3 seconds and then press & release POWER key.
2. The device will display different BOOT OPTIONS. Use the VOL DOWN Key to SCROLL to Recovery and VOL UP Key to select.
Note: If the device reboots, it implies you took too long to make a selection, and hence you need to begin with the above steps again.
 Step 4.Choose 'Wipe data/factory reset'
3. The device will display the Motorola logo and then the Android in distress ( logo with Exclamation mark). Press and hold the VOL UP key for 10-15 seconds. While still holding the VOL UP key tap and press & release the POWER key.
Tip:If you are facing problem, try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are stuck on the above step, try a force reboot by pressing the Power key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.
4. The device will display additional menu options (Text will appear in BLUE). Use the VOL DOWN Key to scroll to Wipe data / factory reset and the POWER Key to select this option.
5. A new menu will be displayed. Use the VOL DOWN key again to select "YES - delete all user data" and press the POWER key to CONFIRM.
6. Once the Formatting is complete, press the POWER key to confirm a REBOOT. The device will reboot and it may take a bit longer as it will be the first boot.
Notes:
  • When using this feature; everything is deleted from the device.
  • Reset will require a minimum battery level of 25%. If you are unable to perform a reset, please charge for 20-30 minutes and try reset again.
